Bio
Karen Klein is a photographer/visual artist currently living in the Twin Cities. She has an MFA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota and is affiliated with the Minnesota Center for Photography, www.mncp.org, WARM (Women's Art Registry of Minnesota) www.thewarm.org, Springboard for the Arts, www.springboardforthearts.org, and online at www.mnartists.org.
Artist's Statement
My Photomontage
images are visual stories of memory and dreams, youth and age, ambition and
ambiguity. I am exploring the challenges of choice as we journey through life – and how our
choices sometimes present obstacles,
create anxieties, or lead to unexpected places or consequences.
I create a photomontage by combining, manipulating and layering pieces of my
film images and digital photos. Using perspective and tonality, I move the
viewer through space to that place inhabited by human memory. I suggest a story,
an experience, or a feeling that is both personal and universal.
The Observations series consists of straight black and white or color photographs. These are scenes I found compelling – images that made me stop and see, with more than my eyes.
The Portraits show a range of emotion, and I look at the entire collection as a composite of all of us – sheer joy to sheer frustration.
